Douglasville FAQs

Why is the Douglasville site closing?
Meeting the needs of our students with the class options and college experience they are looking for remains a high priority at GHC. It is also important that GHC continues to be a good steward of the state funds the college receives, and the tuition and fees paid by GHC students. With fewer and fewer students choosing to attend the Douglasville site, maintaining a physical location prevents GHC from allocating those funds toward the sites and class options students have chosen. Although there are less than 150 students currently taking an in-person class on the Douglasville site, many more Douglas County students still call themselves Chargers with GHC online classes or in-person classes at the nearby Paulding site or at the Marietta site.
When is the Douglasville site closing?
The Douglasville site will close after the Spring 2022 semester. Students will be able to enroll in classes and utilize student services at the Douglasville site throughout the Spring 2022 semester.
I am new to GHC in Spring 2022. Can I take classes at the Douglasville site?
Yes! Classes and student services will be available at the Douglasville site throughout the Spring 2022 semester.
Will the Douglasville Site closure affect my Financial Aid?
The GHC Office of Financial Aid is still available for all of your financial aid needs. Students don’t receive financial aid based on where they attend classes. It is determined by whether or not you qualify based on submission of the FAFSA or other financial aid applications if applicable. Your offers may be affected by factors such as dropping or withdrawing from a class or classes, adjustments to class schedules later in the semester, changing your pathway, not meeting SAP (Satisfactory Academic Program), and other situations that might affect those offers which are not listed here. Many of your questions can also be answered on our GHC Financial Aid website.
I'm in Douglasville. What if I still want to go to GHC?
You are a Charger! That will never change. Continuing at GHC through online classes or in-person classes at other sites is a path GHC's faculty and staff will help you with every step of the way. Schedule an advising appointment through Navigate.
I am a Dual Enrollment student. How does the Douglasville Site closure affect me?
Classes and student services will be available at the Douglasville locations through Spring 2022, and as always remote options are available. GHC continues to work with high schools to provide more access and options for Dual Enrollment students. Have questions? Contact our Dual Enrollment Coordinator, Mary Ann Sailors, at dualenroll@highlands.edu
Will other GHC sites be closing, too?
No. Over 5,000 students call GHC home. GHC continues to grow and serve a larger student body across northwest Georgia. Currently, GHC offers over 40 areas of study with associate degree and bachelor’s degree options both in the classroom and online. GHC is also proud to support the local economy with a regional economic impact of nearly $170 million.
