Other Applicants
GED, General Education Diploma, students are applicants that have earned a GED but have no prior college experience.
Steps to Enrollment:
- Complete online application and pay $30 non-refundable application processing fee.
- Submit GED certificate and test score report.
- If you are applying for in-state tuition, submit Verification of Lawful Presence.
- Submit SAT/ACT Test Scores (only required if applicant is under the age of 18):
- Must submit minimum SAT or ACT scores (taken within the past 7 years) that are at or above the average SAT or ACT scores of the previous year’s fall semester first-time freshmen class as listed below. Minimum equivalent Accuplacer test scores may be substituted for SAT or ACT. Old SAT cannot be combined with New SAT scores.
- SAT (Old) taken prior to March 2016: Minimum required Evidence Based Reading & Writing score of 450 and minimum Math score of 450
- SAT (New) taken March 2016 to present: Minimum Evidence Based Reading & Writing score of 450 and minimum Math score of 450
- ACT Minimum English score of 18 and Math score of 18
- Must submit minimum SAT or ACT scores (taken within the past 7 years) that are at or above the average SAT or ACT scores of the previous year’s fall semester first-time freshmen class as listed below. Minimum equivalent Accuplacer test scores may be substituted for SAT or ACT. Old SAT cannot be combined with New SAT scores.
- Submit two letters of recommendation from individuals outside the family who are in a position to speak to the students maturity and educational potential (only required if applicant is under the age of 18).
Other Information
- Certificate of immunization is not required for an admissions decision but must be received during a student’s first semester at GHC.
- Students wishing to use the SAT or ACT application fee waiver in place of paying the $30 application fee must submit a completed SAT or ACT application fee waiver form (form provided by HS counselor) along with official test scores. You can submit the fee waiver form to admitme@highlands.edu and request a one-time use application fee waiver code to use at the end of your application.
- English Language Proficiency is required for students who are non-native speakers of English or who transfer from an institution of higher education outside the U.S. where English was not the language of instruction are required to show English language proficiency. English Language Proficiency can be satisfied by English transfer credit, 4 units of college prep English earned at an accredited U.S. high school, or any of the assessment tests listed in the chart below.

Applicants wanting to register for regular college classes for personal enrichment (without receiving credit) may be admitted in any of the previous enrollment categories. Students who wish to audit a GHC course is expected to self-identify their intent to audit a course at the time of registration. Auditing students are charged the regular tuition and fees that apply to all other students, which could include the out-of-state tuition rate, should the applicant not be classified as in-state for tuition purposes. Auditors fully participate in their courses but are not required to take course examinations. No grades are issued, and no credit is granted upon completion of the audited course; additionally, students may not receive credit retroactively.
