Huge Earth Day Celebration Comes to Paulding
Earth Day is a big event in Paulding every year, but this year it will be the biggest ever. The event, hosted by Green Highlands and scheduled for Monday, April 22 from noon-3p.m., will feature speakers, demonstrations, contests and complimentary food. Among the participants are Paulding County Commissioner David Austin, who will read a proclamation;Taylor Stringfield and his band; a representative from the Environmental Protection Agency, who will be giving the keynote address; Tommy Leonard, director of Keep Paulding Beautiful, who will be speaking and judging the recycling contest; Paulding County Magistrate Judge Martin Valbuena; a representative from U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss; United Parcel Service, who will bring a hybrid delivery vehicle; Hardy Ford, who is bringing a “green” car; and Elrod’s Garden Center and the UGA Extension Center, who will make a Master Gardeners presentation. Food will be provided by Johnny’s Barbeque of Powder Springs. Fox 5 Storm Chaser Ken Cook is not yet confirmed, but may attend as well. Walmart, Publix, Home Depot and UPS are corporate sponsors. UPS will be distributing free hand sanitizers and other give-aways.
