GHC's Athletes Excel in the Classroom
A couple of the GHC athletes from the inaugural season of basketball are proving to be stars in the classroom as well as the court.† Matt Catanzano, one of the leading scorers for the Chargers, made fall semester 2012 Deanís List with a 3.6 grade point average.† The son of Elaine and Steve Catanzano of Armuchee, he attended Armuchee High School, and was predestined to academic excellence due to his pedigree -- several previous generations of Catanzano educators.† Throughout high school he was a member of the National Honor Society, achieving high honors all four years at AHS.† He also lettered in both baseball and basketball.† So far during his first season with GHC, Matt has averaged 11.1 points per game.† When heís not on the court, he enjoys hunting, fishing and playing golf.† He plans to earn a degree in criminal justice.
Freshman Gabrielle Kendall achieved a 3.0 GPA. She is a native of Canton, Ohio, where she attended Canton-McKinley High School and was recruited by large four-year institutions, including Georgia Tech.† She is one of the leading scorers for the Lady Chargers.† Because she has dealt with the effects of injuries of her own, she is interested in pursuing sports medicine or physical therapy as a career.† Off the court she's a typical teenaged girl: she loves shopping and hanging out with her many friends. During her first year on the GHC team, she has averaged 10.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
