GHC has three wonderful study abroad trips in May and June 2014. These trips can take you to London, Normandy and Paris for the 70th anniversary of D-Day, to Barcelona, Spain and to the Dominican Republic on a service-learning trip. In addition, the University System of Georgia offers study-abroad opportunities in the summer of 2014 to St. Petersburg, Berlin, Paris, Madrid, London and Waterford.

To help you afford these extraordinary travel opportunities, the GHC Foundation has four $1,250 Cook scholarships and five $1,000 grants. While financial aid such as HOPE and the Pell Grant can be used to cover the tuition of the courses associated with a study abroad trip, the Cook scholarship and study-abroad grants are specifically for offsetting the cost of the trips themselves.  Anyone enrolled as a student at GHC during the 2013-2014 academic year is eligible to apply for a Cook scholarship and study-abroad grant. Students who receive funding must use it for a GHC study-abroad trip or a study-abroad trip through the University System of Georgia. Please note that while there is no guarantee that students who apply will receive funding, last year the vast majority of applicants were ultimately offered either a scholarship or grant.

How to apply:

The application process is fairly simple. First, submit a brief online application to the GHC Office of Advancement at this link:

Next, submit one letter of recommendation from a GHC faculty member. Finally, write a brief essay of no more than one page on why you wish to study abroad and how it will benefit you. You must have a FAFSA on file with the college for the academic year. All application materials can be submitted either by mail or online.

Please note that by submitting a complete application, you are automatically eligible for both a Cook scholarship and a study-abroad grant, although in the interest of fairness and to help as many students as possible, you may only be awarded either one Cook scholarship or one study-abroad grant, but not both. All application materials are due by midnight on Sunday, December 1.

If you are interested in study abroad, even if you are unsure whether you will be able to travel in the summer of 2014, you are highly encouraged to apply for these scholarships.
