Interview

FromRuin is a local band from Adairsville, GA. They’ve hit the Atlanta scene big time with shows it seems like every other week at Masquerade.

The band really got kickin’ in April 04. Steve Bennett and Rick Brooks are the only remaining original members still going today. The band has had its rounds with members, but the guys are set for destruction now with the group being set since February 06 with members, Steve Bennett – Vocals, Rick Brooks – Guitar, Caleb Warren – Guitar, Nick Nealey – Bass, and Justin Cochran – Drums. With this line up they’ve manage to kick some ass and book up almost solid for the summer with shows over the entire southeast. July will keep them busy month going to 3 states within that month alone.

I had the chance to talk to Rick Brooks and ask him a few questions.

JP: So, this summer is about booked up? How exciting is that?
RB: Very psyched!!! 15 shows in July, I believe…so, that’s going to be pretty crazy!!! It’s something we defiantly wanted, and we are now at the point where we are capable of doing it. We are KILLER excited!!!

JP: I know you guys have been playing at the Masquerade quite a bit…How is it playing there, and playing with the bands you’ve played with?
RB: It’s always awesome to meet local bands and be able to talk to them. A national show, like the latest one with Bleeding Through show, which was a sold out show, was the most exposure we’ve ever had. One of the biggest crowds we’ve played in front of. We didn’t get to meet the band, but people got to hear us and we got our name out.

JP: Tell us some about Metal fest? I’ve seen it on the bands Myspace page.
RB: Well, it’s not a new concept. The first time was May 04. We had a good turn out and a good environment. We decided since FromRuin has the following they have now, especially in the Adairsville area, that there should be a second one.

They got bands, which bands jumped at chance to play, 8 originally was the plan, but so many wanted to play; now the roll is up to 10 bands.

RB: Metal fest is something good for all bands. We’d like to make it a landmark event, and a yearly thing for this scene here…in this area. METAL! They want to create a scene here so that people do have something they can support!!!

JP: So got any BIG plans coming up in the future?!? Record deal?!? Getting signed?!?
RB: Well of course, we want to be signed, but we want to find the right label. No record deal yet either.

FromRuins’ album comes out this July 4 with a BIG BANG!!! CD release party will be at the Masquerade that flowing Friday, July 7, which also kicks off the tour. FromRuin merchandise is available at all shows. Everything from shirts, to demos, and stickers a second shirt are also in the works!!!
