Course Description  

Physical Geology is the study of Earth materials and processes that occur within and on the surface of the Earth. 

Prerequisites

Satisfactory placement scores/ENGL 0099, READ 0099, and MATH 1071 or MATH 0099

Course Objectives

Students will demonstrate knowledge of the basic elements of Physical Geology, including terminology and basic units of measurement commonly employed, for example: classification of minerals and rocks; physical processes which shape the Earth including volcanism, earthquakes, stream and beach erosion/deposition, glaciation.

Students will demonstrate knowledge of essential theories of Physical Geology: plate tectonic theory, elastic rebound theory, principle of uniformitarianism.

Students will demonstrate the ability to function in a laboratory or observational setting, gathering data and performing analysis typical of Physical Geology at an introductory level.
