Math1111     College Algebra

Course Description:

This is an Internet-based distance learning course, which involves minimal contact with the instructor. Class materials will be administered via the web.

This course is a functional approach to algebra that incorporates the use of appropriate technology. Emphasis will be placed on the study of functions, and their graphs, inequalities, and linear, quadratic, piecewise defined, rational, polynomial, exponential and logarithmic functions. Appropriate applications will be included. Students cannot get credit for both Math1001 and math1111.

Course Design:

This course will be taught completely online, with no scheduled classroom lectures. All students taking the course MUST attend an information session to describe the course and give an overview of the online resources available.

You will need to study materials on your own and practice homework assignments, online quizzes, and take tests online. You will have four online tests and a face-to-face final exam. The final exam will be comprehensive in nature, thus it is important that you spend time working the problems and quizzes yourself.

Although this class is online and is designed to give students flexibility in the learning process, you will have a number of different mechanisms of communicating with the instructor. This will include email, discussion groups and office hours.
