Latest Update: 7-31-2010
Dear Part-time Mathematics and FCCS Faculty,
Thank you very much for agreeing to teach with Georgia Highlands College during Fall Semester 2010!
Classes begin Wednesday, August 18. The final exam schedule and terms dates are not posted yet. Once they are ready they will be available at www.highlands.edu/subwebs/ptmath/CourseManagement.htm
Blanca Gonzalez, long-time faculty member in the mathematics division, is the new Mathematics Coordinator. She assumes these responsibilities in Fall 2010 from Dr. Johnny Duke. She is the contact person for questions from part-time faculty regarding credit-level mathematics or FCCS 1100. She will also coordinate textbook issues and work to make sure all of you have the materials you need to be successful in the classroom. Blanca's email is bgonzale@highlands.edu and her phone number is 706-368-7526. Kelly Shane continues in his role as Learning Support Mathematics Coordinator.
While on the subject of course materials...if you need textbooks or course materials, contact Blanca (bgonzale@highlands.edu)
As you prepare your course materials remember to take into account the part-of-term in which your class meets as your organize your syllabus and distribute midterm dates, etc. Most math classes are full session, while most FCCS classes are 3rd session. If you have questions about the term dates, contact Blanca, Kelly, or me. Again, this information isn't posted yet for Fall 2010, but it will be available soon.
Assessment activities are ongoing throughout the Mathematics and Academic Support Divisions. If you are asked to assist in assessment, please take the time to survey or test your students and return the required data. This includes the QEP project for the college focused on Information Competency (IC @ GHC). Be on the lookout regarding assessment throughout the semester.
GHC's website has been redesigned. You may want to click around on www.highlands.edu before the beginning of classes.
Information about part-time faculty in-service dates is being mailed. Be on the lookout for the materials.
Enrollment for Fall 2010 is on pace to set a new record, and several new student orientations are scheduled between now and the beginning of fall classes. Even so, some MATH and FCCS sections remain small. I anticipate several additional staffing changes between now and beginning of classes on August 18. As always, please be patient and flexible as we work to adapt the course schedule and staffing to accommodate the needs the students. I appreciate your flexibility more than you know!
Have a great Fall 2010 term!
Brent
