What is Georgia Highlands College NYSP?
The National Youth Sports Program is a six-week summer camp held at Georgia Highlands College each year. With a staff of approximately 30 and many volunteers, we service over 400 students each summer. Our program is broken up into two phases, the activity phase and the educational phase. During the activity phase we offer instructional training in swimming, canoeing, tennis, softball, basketball, and soccer. The other phase of our program involves Drug and Alcohol Prevention classes with incorporated use of a laptop and prevention software and Career Planning classes that cover a variety of subjects to aid student in making good life choices. The newest addition to our program is the Math/Science component. Students engage in hands-on activities in many areas of math and science. The campers are broken into groups by gender and age. Our program targets the underprivileged and less fortunate students in Floyd and Polk County areas. This camp is offered to these students at no charge. We provide free transportation to and from camp at no charge as well. Campers are also provided a snack in the mornings when they unload off the buses and are also provided a hot lunch after a long day of activities and fun. The Federal
Government in conjunction with the NCAA, Department of Health and Human Services,
and Georgia Highlands College sponsors the camp. We are proud to be part of this rich tradition
as Georgia Highlands College NYSP celebrates its 31st campaign this year. | FAQ's | Contact Us | NYSP Home | GHC Home | Georgia Highlands
