The objective for our swim program is to teach every camper not only how to swim, but also safety areas and other techniques to improve someone's technique that may already know how to swim. Kids will be bused to Rome High School at least two days a week and will have instruction in several areas including gliding and kicking techniques, arm action techniques, safety precautions in and around the pool area, and treading water. Swimming is taught by a certified Water Safety Instructor and is assisted by two certified lifeguards. The swim program is a crucial area to NYSP, because without it we could not operate.

Soccer

Soccer is a growing sport in the United States and one that a lot of underprivileged kids do not get exposure to. Here at NYSP, we like to offer sports that are not as familiar to these kids and sports that may not be offered in many high schools and give them the opportunity to experience something out of the ordinary. These kids get the chance to learn and play soccer on a standardized college soccer field over looking beautiful Paris Lake. Campers learn such skills as trapping, passing, shooting, dribbling, headers, and game strategy. Campers also have the opportunity to participate is actual games versus other groups and learn the value of teamwork.

Tennis

The objective of our tennis program is to expose these campers to a lifelong sport that they can participate in and improve their fitness.
     Tennis is offered on
Georgia Highlands College's newly remodeled tennis courts. This complex has a total of 8 courts. Campers learn different techniques including rules, volley and lob shots, serving, forehands and backhands, and several others. Tennis is split with volleyball in the middle of camp.

Volleyball

Volleyball is offered to students in the afternoons and is split with tennis, depending on the group's schedule. Campers are taught two different versions of volleyball, indoor and beach. Beach volleyball is a new addition to our sports curriculum. During volleyball, campers learn such objectives as bumps, sets, spikes, rotation, passes, and strategy. With the new addition of two state of the art beach volleyball courts, Georgia Highlands College as been able to bring more joy to the campers and also a new way of playing the sport.
