Editor (1) and Assistant Editors (2)
The
editor will receive approx. $1,400 per semester. The assistant editors will
each receive approx. $1,300 per semester. The editor and assistant editors will
work with content and layout and design for the print publication and content
for the outline publication. Applicants must have the following qualifications:
1.
Good computer skills and good basic writing skills
2.
Free time in the afternoons and an additional 9 nights fall semester
and 12 nights spring semester to work on page layout
3.
A minimum 2.2 GPA for returning students and a minimum 10 hr. per
semester course load
Some
newspaper or yearbook experience would be helpful but is not required. On-the-job
training is possible.
The information and graphics assistant will become familiar with the SMP production software from both a page design and graphics design perspective and will monitor online activity at the SMP web site, working toward more frequent updates and interactive features. The information and graphics assistant will contribute to the graphic design of the printed SMP and also be prepared to step in if an assistant editor becomes incapacitated. The information and graphics assistant will receive approx. $500 per semester.
The
chief photographer coordinates photo assignments, keeps track of photo supplies
and equipment, takes photos, and files permission slips. He or she also prepares
the photos for use in the newspaper by processing digital images and scanning
photographs. The chief photographer also archives digital images. The chief
photographer will receive approx. $600 per semester.
The advertising manager coordinates ad sales, designs ads, coordinates ad layout, handles billing, and keeps office records. The advertising manager receives a base salary of $300 fall semester and $400 spring semester plus up to 25 percent commission on collected ad revenue.
The
assistant ad manager is based at the Cartersville Campus and helps sell ads in
the Cartersville area and coordinates any other ad salespeople at the
Cartersville Campus. The assistant ad manager receives 15 percent commission on
ads personally sold and is given first access to established Cartersville
accounts.
The
ad salespeople are paid a 15 percent commission on collected ad revenue.
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
The
following positions are unpaid but offer a chance to be involved in an
important college activity, to gain valuable work-related experience, and to
enhance a resume: News Writers, Feature Writers, Sport
Writers, Photographers, and Artists
(cartoonists/illustrators/graphic designers).
