Peer Tutoring Program

The Tutorial Center operates a volunteer peer tutoring program designed to add tutoring hours at GHC sites while providing opportunities for GHC’s exceptional students to further their teaching and service skills. Peer tutoring supplements the instructional process and increases the probability of success and retention for GHC students.

To qualify as peer tutors, students must have completed coursework in the area in which they expect to provide tutoring services (for example, a student wishing to tutor in Math should have completed MATH 1111 or higher before tutoring students in MATH 0097/0099) with a grade of B or higher and receive a recommendation from the instructor from whom they took the course.  They must complete training for peer tutoring before they begin to tutor.

Students who would like to become peer tutors should complete the Peer Tutoring Application form and turn it in at the Tutorial Center (see Schedule if needed).

Volunteer Tutoring Program

To qualify as a community volunteer, a person must have teaching experience OR tutoring experience OR extensive coursework in the field/courses to be tutored.  The potential volunteer tutor must also possess excellent communication, people, computer skills, and be self-starting.

A person who would like to become a community volunteer tutor should complete the GHC Community Volunteer Application form and turn it in at the Tutorial Center (see Schedule if needed).
