John Spranza

John has been director of student life since January 2003 and oversees the direction of the entire student life team. By supervising, coordinating, directing and engaging the various aspects of student development, he plays a vital role in the administration of campus programming to create a fun and educational environment for all GHC students. Once a student at GHC himself, John is a product of student involvement success and strives to give all students the opportunity to get the most out of their time on campus. Previously to his return to GHC, John was an admissions counselor at the University of West Georgia, where he recruited freshmen and transfer students while specializing in athletic admissions and certified NCAA clearinghouse qualifying for incoming student-athletes. He is a member of a number of professional associations, such as the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), National Orientation Directors Association (NODA), Association for Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA), Georgia College Personnel Association (GCPA), National Council on Student Development (NCSD), and serves in a leadership position in several associations. John was awarded the Earnest C. Jones National Programming Advisor of the Year Award in 2009 by the Association for Promotion of Campus Activities, and is a past chairman for the Regents Advisory Committee on Student Life. He is married with two sons and enjoys camping, reading, and volunteer coaching youth sports.


Megan Youngblood

Megan joined GHC as assistant director of student life in 2010 and is based at the Cartersville Campus. As an undergraduate at the University of Central Arkansas Megan was involved in various activities on campus which fueled her desire to work in Student Affairs. During her graduate work at UCA, Megan interned at Dalton State College in Dalton, GA and fell in love with student activities, orientation, and the state of Georgia. Now officially a Georgian, Megan strives to help students find their "fit" in student life within the organizations, activities, and programs offered at Georgia Highlands. In addition to her work on campus, she is also involved in several professional organizations, including the Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA) and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). In her spare time she enjoys reading, knitting, canoeing, taking pictures, and spending time with her friends and family.


Lyric Burnett

Program Coordinator (2010)

This is Lyric's first year working for Georgia Highlands College. She is the Student Life  Program Coordinator for the Douglasville, Paulding, and Marietta instructional sites. Being the first to hold this position on the Student Life team at GHC, she hopes to provide programming at the three sites that engage students and increase student involvement. As a recent graduate of Georgia College & State University, she plans on using her skills in leadership and event planning to build a stronger component of Student Life at the GHC instruction sites. Prior to joining GHC, Lyric was a Unit Marketing Director for Chick-fil-A and also interned with both the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce and the corporate office of Chick-fil-A. In her spare time she enjoys reading, hiking, kayaking, and cleaning.


Alexis Carter

Orientation Coordinator (2010)

Alexis joined the student life team in November 2010 as coordinator of new student orientation programs. In this position, she strives to ensure that every student’s first experience with GHC is informative, engaging, empowering, and as comfortable as possible. Alexis selects, trains, and directs the essential group of student leaders that assist with orientation, and enjoys exploring methods of leadership development to challenge and engage students. Prior to joining GHC, Alexis worked as a graduate assistant in the office of orientation at Armstrong Atlantic State University. She also interned with the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum in Savannah, GA. She is a member of the National Association of Orientation Directors. Alexis has a son and a daughter, and enjoys reading, researching, spending time with her family and friends in her spare time.


Christy Twilley

Administrative Assistant (2002)

Christy has been an integral part of the student life team since 2002 and coordinates and maintains all office clerical and business forms, paperwork and records. Often the first face students see when they come into the office of student life, Christy encourages all students to take advantage of the programming and opportunities offered by the OSL. She also assists advisors of registered student organizations with policy compliance, supervises departmental student workers, and maintains general office inventory. Prior to coming to GHC, Christy served as administrative assistant with the American Red Cross. Her husband also works for GHC and they have one daughter. In her spare time, Christy enjoys scrapbooking, sewing, and is an expert couponer.


David Mathis

Director of Intramurals (1993)
Office Location: Floyd Campus D-110
David has been with Georgia Highlands College since 1993 as Physical Education Lab Coordinator. In 1998 he took over the direction of the Intramural Athletic Program. In addition to his instruction and Lab Coordinator duties at multiple GHC locations, David schedules and supervises a variety of Intramural Sports and Outdoor Recreation activities at the Floyd Campus. He encourages all students to participate in competitive and non-competitive physical activities, and supervises and manages student workers in the Fitness Lab and Intramural Officials.
David is the Tournament Director for the Georgia High School Association invitational, regional, and state basketball tournaments held at GHC year.
David is also the Camp Administrator for the Foundation Camp, a program for disadvantaged youth from our service area , ages 10-14 males, held a GHC’s Floyd Campus each summer.
He is a member of the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), is a certified American Heart Association Instructor Trainer serves as Chairman of the Rome Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority, and volunteers as a team trainer for Pepperell High School athletic teams. David is married with two grown children.


Clifton Puckett

Intramurals Intern (2010)

Clifton joined the GHC Student Life team in 2010 as the intramural intern and will assist in building the intramural sports program on the Cartersville Campus. Clifton's goal is to ensure that each student has the opportunity to participate in intramural activities and enjoy their college experience while building lifelong relationships. Prior to joining GHC, Clifton was the graduate assistant for Intramurals and Outdoor Recreation at Berry College. During his tenure there he helped broaden and enhance both programs. In his spare time he officiates high school football, softball, basketball, and baseball for the Georgia High School Association. 


Alicia Akins

Student Worker
Office Location: Cartersville Campus

Alicia has worked for the office of student life since 2010. As a student worker in student life, she helps the department maintain office hours, performs general clerical and filing duties, and assists in the marketing and promotion of events and activities hosted by the OSL. Alicia is a member of several registered student organizations at GHC such as Highlands Interactive Productions.


Ginger Green

Student Worker

Ginger has worked for the office of student life since 2009, and is an education major. As a student worker in student life, she monitors the game room, performs general clerical and filing duties, and assists in the marketing and promotion of events and activities hosted by the OSL. She graduated from Pepperell High School in 2009 and enjoys participating in various outdoor activities her spare time.
