The purpose of the Post-Tenure Review is to assess faculty development goals and achievements and provide assistance to faculty in ensuring continuous intellectual and professional growth and provide assistance to the department in ensuring that all faculty members are contributing to the departmentís goals and responsibilities.† This Post-Tenure Review will be done every fifth year following the last personnel action and must be completed within one academic year.
The faculty member will be responsible for providing to their Academic Dean (not to exceed 10 items, paper or media):
- Letter of intent (1 page)
- A curriculum vitae
- Statement of accomplishments for the past five years
- Progress on goals from the last 3-5 years (depending on last personnel action) with emphasis on linking those goals to student learning outcomes. (2 pages)
- Goals for the next two years
- Examples of innovative/superior teaching (3 examples, 5 pages maximum)
- Articles, other examples of scholarly achievement (no page limit)
The Post-Tenure Review will be based on the following criteria:
- Superior teaching demonstrated by a classroom visit;
- Outstanding service to Georgia Highlands College and the community;
- Academic achievement; and
- Professional growth and development
The Academic Dean will provide the faculty memberís package to the Post-Tenure Review Committee (PTRC).
- The committee should be comprised of at least three members (may include one non-tenured member of the faculty) with representation from each division if possible.
- The committee will be elected by the faculty every fall in a general election
- The committee members will review all application materials submitted; in addition, they will observe at least one class taught by the applicant.
- The committee members will be able to review syllabi and tests used by the instructor as well as student evaluations for the prior academic year.
- The committee will make a report in concurrence with the guidelines established.† The committee will make recommendations in consultation with the candidate concerning goals related to student learning outcomes.† The Candidate will work with the Academic Dean to finalize the goals.† These goals will be included in the Post-Tenure Review report, regardless of findings of satisfactory or unsatisfactory progress.
- In the case of unsatisfactory progress, the report will contain recommendations for activities required to upgrade the faculty memberís performance to satisfactory standards.† The report will be presented to the Academic Dean.
The Academic Dean will present this documentation to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs (VPASA).† The VPASA will notify the Academic Dean in writing of concurrence or non-concurrence with the PTRCís recommendation.† A non-concurrence by the VPASA should be in writing with specific reasons for non-concurrence and suggested actions.
The Academic Dean will provide the faculty member with a written summary.† In case of unsatisfactory progress, a Development Plan will be prepared.
The Development Plan should include:
- Specific goals;
- Activities that would achieve those goals;
- A timeline to achieve the goals; and
- A timeline for an interim evaluation, if necessary.
The faculty member has the right to appeal to the Academic Dean according to established policies.† Continued unsatisfactory performance may result in disciplinary action including dismissal.
The timeline for the Post-tenure review process is as follows:
- No later than October 1st, all faculty members who are eligible for post-tenure review will be informed of their status by their Academic Dean.
- No later than November 15th, the faculty member will provide the completed post-tenure package to the Academic Dean.
- No later than November 30th, the Academic Dean will forward all Post-Tenure packets for his/her Division to the PTRC.
- No later than February 15th, the Committee will forward their report to the Academic Dean.
- No later than March 1st, the Academic Dean will report the committeeís findings to the VPASA.
- No later than May 1st, the VPASA will provide a summary statement to the Academic Dean, who will then confer with the faculty member.
