Faculty Academy Procedures [REVISED by SG: 10.10]

Timeline for establishing Faculty Academy curriculum:†

  • In May, Dr. Simon Grist asks academic deans for suggestions for new Faculty Academy sessions for the coming year.
  • In June-July, Dr. Grist updates the Faculty Academy curriculum for the upcoming academic year and makes it available on the Instructional Resource Center (IRC) web site for comment.
  • In July-August, Dr. Grist arranges specific times/dates for Fall Faculty Academy schedule and publishes them on the IRC web site, and in December arranges the Spring semester schedule.
  • In April-May, at the conclusion of each academic year, academic deans review Faculty Academy curriculum and consider revisions.

†Prepare contract for tenure-track faculty:†

  1. The new faculty member, in concert with the academic dean, develops at least three professional goals for the next two academic years.
  2. Academic deans direct new faculty to review the Faculty Academy schedule.
  3. The faculty member and the academic dean produce a plan to accomplish the goals with a timeline for (a) the upcoming Fall and Spring semester, and for (b) the projected Fall and Spring semester in the year after that.† A copy of the timeline document is given by the academic dean to Dr. Simon Grist by the end of September.
  4. In December, the faculty member submits a report to the academic dean for Fall Faculty Academy activities, briefly discussing content and reflections.† The faculty member and the academic dean discuss the outcomes, and perhaps adjust the faculty memberís professional goals and timeline as a result.† Dr. Grist is notified by the academic dean of any change in timeline.

Each semester such a report is prepared.
