Georgia Highlands College - Financial Aid SAP

Federal regulations require that Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is used to define successful completion of coursework to maintain eligibility for student financial aid. Federal regulations require that the College to establish , publish, and apply standards to monitor your progress towards the completion of your degree program. If you fail to meet these standards, you will be placed on financial aid probation or suspension. Your academic performance must meet the SAP standards published.

When is SAP checked?

Your Satisfactory Academic Progress will be monitored at the end of each semester. Please remember this is overall progress at Georgia Highlands College and will include ALL TRANSFER credits accepted at GHC.

SAP Measures

1. CGPA: A student must maintain a 2.0 or above cumulative grade point average. Learning Support classes are included in the GPA calculation for Financial Aid purposes.

2. Pace: The pace at which a student must progress in his/her program of study is earning 67% of the total hours attempted.

3. Maximum timeframe: the maximum amount of hours a student may receive financial aid at Georgia Highlands College is 150% of the total hours published in his/her program of study. This includes all transfer credit hours regardless of whether the courses are required for the student’s course of study.

Dental Hygiene 116 Attempted Hours

Human Services 101 Attempted Hours

General Associates 99 Attempted Hours

What's My Status?

Financial Aid Warning-The very first time you do not meet all three SAP requirements or the first time after getting back in good standing.

Financial Aid Suspension-Not meeting SAP for the second consecutive time. Suspension means you are not eligible for aid until the minimum SAP requirements are met. You may file an appeal if you have been placed on financial aid suspension due to a GPA or pace deficiency and extenuating circumstances beyond your control kept you from meeting SAP. Students who have been placed on financial aid suspension due to being at the maximum timeframe cap are not eligible to file an appeal. You may appeal ONCE throughout the course of your education.

Financial Aid Probation-If your SAP Appeal is approved, you will be placed on Financial Aid Probation and you can receive financial aid for the term that you are on Probation, as long as you adhere to the terms of your approval. If you fail to adhere to the terms, you will be placed on Financial Aid Suspension until the minimum SAP requirements are met.
