GREGORY E. SUMNER, Ph.D. (Greg) is a Tenured Professor of Criminal Justice and Course Coordinator at Georgia Highlands College. Greg is the Founder of Professional Screening & Information, Inc. (PSI), and the Community Criminal Justice Foundation, Inc. Greg sold the majority of his stock holdings in PSI to a private investment group in April 2014. Greg has served as a deputy sheriff, police officer, and senior instructor for the State of Georgia Police Academy. In addition, he is a Veteran of Operation Desert Storm serving in the United States Army and the Georgia Army National Guard.
Greg holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Human Services with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Walden University and conducted additional graduate studies in developmental psychology. He conducted his doctoral residency at Indiana University. He holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science from Jacksonville State University, where he was a member of Alpha Phi Sigma—a criminal justice national honor society, Lambda Alpha Epsilon—the American Criminal Justice Association, Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and currently as a Foundation Board member.
Greg is a recipient of the Heart of the Community Award (2012) and Jacksonville State University Criminal Justice Alumni of the Year Award (2012).
Greg is a graduate of Leadership Georgia (2009) and is an active member of the community and state and serves on many non-profit boards.
Greg and his family reside in Rome, Georgia where they are members of First Baptist Church of Rome.
