Second Annual GHC Speech Competition 2012

The second annual GHC Speech Competition, held on March 30th, 2012, provided GHC students the opportunity to utilize effective public speaking skills learned from instruction in their Human Communication and Public Speaking courses.  This year's competition was directed by Travice Obas, Associate Professor of Communication, Meredith Ginn, Assistant Professor of Communication, and Erica Simpson, Assistant Professor of Communication. Thirty-two students participated from all campuses and represented a variety of majors. Winners received cash prizes, courtesy of Rome Area Council of the Arts, who sponsored the event.  The placement of the competitors are listed in order below, in addition, a link is provided to the view the five finalists presentations.

The placings were:
1st: Jacob Perry, Rome campus
2nd: Andrew West, Rome campus
3rd: Amera Samha, Rome campus
4th: Jessica Beckham, Rome campus
5th: Jonathan Lugo, Cartersville

2011 Inaugural GHC Speech Competition

The inaugural GHC Speech Competition, held on April 3rd, 2011, provided GHC students the opportunity to utilize effective public speaking skills learned from instruction in their Human Communication courses.  Twenty-five students participated from all campuses and represented a variety of majors. Winners received cash prizes, courtesy of McGraw Hill Publishing Company, who sponsored the event.  Joseph Johnson took first place with his speech titled “A Case Against Affirmative Action;” Christian Alexanderson took second place with “It’s Time to Consider an Umbrella Cockatoo;” and Jeffrey Williams came in third place with “I’m Lovin’ It.”
