40 years of poetry, prose, and art
Last year marked the 40th anniversary of Georgia Highlands College. Since that first semester in 1970, the faculty here have thought about ways to get students involved. One of those ways was the creation of a student-edited literary and arts magazine: Old Red Kimono
Now, in 2012, we are still thinking of ways to get students involved. In the age of Twitter, facebook, and the likes, we are happy to report that we had more student submissions last year than in any other. Students (and contributors the world over) still want to be published, to see their works inked onto paper.
In some cases, these publications jump start careers, entire lives. Several of our faculty were once students at Georgia Highlands College (though it was then known as Floyd College). They published their first works in Old Red Kimono, before going on to degrees at Ole Miss, The New South Workshop at Georgia State, and so on. Some of them have been nominated for awards, while others, like Ray Atkins, have won some big ones (Georgia Author of the Year 2009 for his first novel, The Front Porch Prophet).
If you would like to be part of this tradition, submit to Old Red Kimono by following the links.
Here is to another a fabulous forty years!
