Academic Dishonesty Discussion
Checklist for Students
At the time the student is scheduled to meet with the faculty member and possibly a neutral third party (facilitator) to undergo the informal resolution process, the following will occur:
Opening:
- Welcome and introductions of all people involved in the meeting
- Explanation of the informal resolution discussion process about to occur
- Description of the facilitator’s role in the process
- Explanation of the goal of today’s discussion
- An overview of possible outcomes on the agreement form if the student consents to a resolution
- Explanation of the student’s right to change his/her mind and cancel agreement with the decision reached today
- Explanation of the confidentiality of today’s discussion
- Questions answered
Discussion:
- Assurance of balanced time for both parties to speak
- Clarification of statements made by each party if necessary
Closing:
- Both parties will complete and sign the agreement form
- Specific details of the penalty will be outlined in the agreement when applicable
- Both parties will receive a copy of the agreement form
- Explanation of the student’s right to change his/her mind and cancel agreement with the decision reached today
- Both parties will be reminded of the confidentiality of today’s discussion and that it is off-limits should a hearing ultimately become necessary
- Questions answered (any additional questions after the meeting may go to the Director of Student Life)
- Both parties thanked for participating in the process
- Forms returned to the Office of Student Life
