GHC/Marietta's Campus Dean Becomes a Principal for a Day
Georgia Highlands College/Marietta, in partnership with the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, Cobb County Schools and Marietta City Schools will participate in the 2012 Principal for a Day project. The annual program, now in its 12th year, allows business, education and civic leaders an opportunity to apply their skill sets in the local schools, thus creating potential partnerships.
Dr. Kirk A. Nooks, GHC/Marietta campus dean, was selected to serve Feb. 28 as a principal at the Marietta Sixth Grade Academy. He expects to observe the strengths and challenges of the school and explore areas of future collaboration between Marietta Sixth Grade Academy and GHC. He will spend the day immersed in the daily activities of Gabe Carmona, current principal at the academy. Nooks said, "The Marietta Sixth Grade Academy has a wonderful reputation for easing the education transition after the elementary years. The opportunity to peek in on the best practices will be worth every minute of the PFAD expereince."
Marietta Sixth Grade Academy's mission is to "provide a safe, nurturing, and challenging environment where all students will be successful." Georgia Highlands College seeks to collaborate and contribute to molding the youth to become model citizens and contributors to the world through academics and community involvement. The partnership created by Marietta Sixth Grade Academy, Cobb County Schools, and Georgia Highlands will pave the way for increased student success rates.
