As part of our units on leadership and cultural awareness, your task is to analyze the leadership characteristics of someone who is making a difference in the world, and tackling the tough issues that face us all. The individual you choose may be an influential writer, scientist, humanitarian, artist, theologian or entrepreneur, or politician, but please refrain from selecting athletes or pop culture icons. The person you choose must also fit the following criteria:
- he or she must be living and
- he or she must live and work outside of the United States.
Think outside of the box, when choosing your leader. Your instructor has probably introduced you to TED Talks, this semester. TED Talks colleciton of talks from individuals making a difference in their communities and our world. Click the TED image below to continue to the website.
TED Talks Mission: We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we're building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world's most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other.

SEARCH
To begin your search, simply type an issue of interest to you in the 'SEARCH' window. You should receive results of TED Talks focusing on your issue.
ONCE YOU HAVE IDENTIFIED THE LEADER YOU WOULD LIKE TO PROFILE, EMAIL YOUR INSTRUCTOR AND CONFIRM YOUR CHOICE.

RESEARCH
Your research for this project will include a minimum of two sources. You may cite the TED Talk, you used to identify your leader, as your first source. Your second source should be an article, book, or magaine, consider using GALILEO to locate this source. Please, remember that encyclopedias/encyclopedic websites are not considered appropriate sources at the college level, and take great care when assessing the credibility and timeliness of web-based material. You may want to refer to the Online Skillshop, The 21st Century Researcher, for guidelines on sources, plagiarism, and analyzing the credibility of websites. You can access that Skillshop here: https://www.highlands.edu/site/faculty-lgore-21st-century-researcher. You can also find excellent information in your text, Becoming a Master Student, in the section "Think Critically About Information on the Internet", pg 227. Make sure you gather enough information to accuarately describe the leadership characteristics of your leader in at least three paragraphs.
