Requester Name: Diane Langston
Project Description: Piloting and eventually adopting new Learning Support approaches mandated by the Board of Regents. The goal is to increase student success in Learning Support and enable students to spend less time in Learning Support before taking on credit-level work. The initial focus is on Learning Support Math.
Suggested Date for Implementation: Jan 01, 2012
From a student perspective: How would this project provide additional student access to technological resources?
We request an additional computer lab on the Floyd campus so that we can follow the "innovations" to Learning Support courses that involve having each course meet at least once per week in a computer lab for supervised computer-based work and individualized or small-group instruction.

How would this project broaden or enhance the quality of the student's academic experience through the proposed technology?
Supervised time in the lab allows students to work on computer-based course material at their own pace and to ask questions that allow them to move ahead instead of potentially waiting days to ask the question at the next class.

How would this project integrate technology into coursework?
We already use a computer-based system for Learning Support Math. This project allows students better access to campus computers to do the work (by having specific times set aside just for that) and better opportunity to move ahead at their own pace.

From a faculty/staff perspective: Will other departments be involved with this project? If so, please describe.
Initially, no, but the models being presented for consideration in Learning Support Math are extended by many systems into credit-level math. Eventually, therefore, the Math Division may become involved.

Has any part of this project previously been funded by STF?
no

If you answered yes, please describe:

Costs: Estimated Cost of Project: $25,000

Are there any related or additional costs associated with the project? If so, please describe:

Are there any ongoing costs such as maintenance fees? If so, please describe:
