Project Description: Improve technology in the patient care clinic (purchase 7 computers) 3 in clinic, 2 in student lounge and 2 for digital radiology.
Suggested Date for Implementation: Jul 01, 2010
From a student perspective: How would this project provide additional student access to technological resources?
We have purchased patient management software (Eaglesoft) and are going to purchase the accompanying imaging software to enable the students to take digital xrays on patients and manage patient charts using a paperless technology.

How would this project broaden or enhance the quality of the student's academic experience through the proposed technology?
Currently in private practice dental hygienists are expected to utlize digital radiography equipment and manage patients using charting software. We expect these additions to permit our students to be more prepared to meet the demands of the dental community. We are one of very few dental hygiene programs that have not converted to digital xrays at this point.

How would this project integrate technology into coursework?
Students will utilize the computers in the clinic to gather information about drugs patients are taking and learn how to use the Eaglesoft program and they will be evaluated on their skills. Also the students will use the computers in our student lounge to stay in contact with the program/school and obtain and prepare class assignments.

Our department will have to purchase the digital sensors and imaging software totaling about $20,000

Are there any ongoing costs such as maintenance fees? If so, please describe: We will have to purchase 12 months of support and 2 days of training totaling about $2000.
