Successful Supervision for New Front-Line Leaders      Back to Course List

Workshop Overview:

Nearly half of all new supervisors realize early in their first year that being a front-line leader isn’t all they thought it would be. While some of these individuals may have not been suited to their new leadership role, many of them say they just weren’t adequately prepared to deal with the new requirements of their role. Studies show that front-line leaders have the greatest effect on employee engagement and performance – and their impact is driven primarily by how well they manage and lead their team. There are some fundamental behaviors and skills that can make the transition to front-line leader easier so you can settle in and lead with confidence. The overall goal of this one-day workshop is to help accelerate the transition and help you feel more comfortable as you lead your team to gain commitment instead of compliance.

At the end of this one day workshop, you will be able to:

• Identify your natural strengths and challenge areas in your role as a front-line leader (Hint: what made you successful before is different than what will make you successful as a front-line leader)
• Prepare for and deal with the changes that come with your new role
• Define your responsibilities to your team, your boss, and to yourself and your former peers
• Communicate effectively in a variety of situations
• Use a proven performance feedback model that achieves results
• Listen actively and intentionally
• Set S.M.A.R.T. goals for yourself and with your team
• Use the levels of delegation to build and enhance relationships with your team
• Deal with resistors, nay-sayers, and other challenging personalities.
This hands-on, interactive workshop will provide you with opportunities to practice new skills and learn from the experiences of others while gaining new perspectives on your role as a front-line leader.
Who Will Benefit from this Workshop?
If you are a new front-line leader or have held a front-line leader position for a few years, you will appreciate having the ability to address the challenges you face and explore proven strategies for success. If you are thinking about moving into a front-line leadership, this workshop will give you a clearer idea of the expectations and opportunities that come with leadership.
Instructor: Christina Christenson Brush, Ph.D. Tina is the creator of three certificate programs – Successful Supervision, Lead to Succeed, and Taking Your Leadership to the Next Level. She has offered her programs throughout the southeastern and Midwestern United States. Drawing on over 30 years of experience working with organizations in manufacturing, service, and the non-profit industries and leaders at all levels, Tina’s workshops offer self-assessment opportunities, interactive activities based on situations faced by front-line leaders, simulations, opportunities to try out new behaviors and approaches in a “safe” setting, and coaching geared to best practices for creating an engaged and committed work environment.
