Guidance Counselors
Welcome to Georgia Highlands College! At GHC, we recognize the important role a high school counselor plays in the life of high school students and their college choices. We hope this web page will serve as a valuable tool to assist your students through the enrollment process at GHC. From time to time, we will feature one of our star students as we provide you with up-to-date information about changes impacting the enrollment or financial aid process for students. We can arrange to travel to your high school to provide staff with useful information, and we encourage you to attend one of our Counselor Workshops hosted at the GHC locations. If we can be of any assistance to you and your staff, please contact us at a campus location listed below.

Application Procedures and Admissions Response
Step 1: All applicants are required to complete an admissions application, pay the $20 application fee (GHC accepts SAT/ACT fee waivers only), and have an official transcript sent to the Admissions Office. Although not required, we strongly encourage an SAT or ACT exam to increase students’ chances for acceptance and for possible scholarships.
Step 2: The application and documents are typically processed within two weeks of receipt. Students are reminded by mail to track their enrollment status online through the Check Admissions Status link.
Step 3: If eligible for admissions, students are mailed an official acceptance letter and the Check Admissions Status link is updated to reflect the admissions decision. As a counselor, you have the ability to check your students’ admissions status through the above link.
Step 4: Some students are required to take the COMPASS placement exam based upon either a College Prep Deficiency or SAT/ACT scores below the minimum requirements. For more information, visit the Compass Testing Information link below.
Step 5: Attend a New Student Orientation where students meet individually with an academic advisor and register for classes. Students who want more course options and flexible schedules should apply early and register for the earliest possible new student orientation.
Policy Alert!
Beginning Fall 2011, all students seeking in-state tuition rates at a USG college or university must prove lawful presence in the United States. Please visit the Verifying Lawful Presence link below for more information and a list of acceptable documentation.
