Spring 2011 Programming Information

Basic Japanese: IRASSHAI - is a Japanese course taught by nationally renowned foreign language instructor Tim Cook, and covers conversations ranging from introductions and greetings to sports.

30 min - Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am-9:30am

 

Books of Our Time - a one-one-one talk with authors of the most influential and important works of our time.

60 min - Monday, Wednesday and Friday 2:30pm-3:30pm

 

Classic Arts Showcase - is designed to bring the classic arts experience to the largest audience possible by providing short video clips of the arts, including animation, architectural art, ballet, classical music, dance, folk art, museum art, musical theater, opera, and theatrical performances, as well as classic film and archival documentaries.

Monday-Friday from 6:00am-7:00am and 8:00am-9:00am, Monday and Wednesday 11:00pm-7:00am, Monday-Thursday 12:30pm-1:00pm and 11:pm-7:00am, Tuesday and Thursday 10:30-11:00am and 2:00-2:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 12:30am-8:00am and 6:00pm-6:30pm.

 

CVTC Workforce Connection - features the community's connection with the workforce in our area. The show will also consist of interviews with some of our business leaders and people who make decisions about putting industry in here in our three counties.

Community Watch - examines local issues that are vital to the residents of Rome and Floyd County, and beyond. Education, the arts, politics, health, diversity and commerce are just a few of the wide range of subjects explored each week through interviews and discussion. The show is hosted by Greg Shropshire of the 100 Black Men of Rome and Jon Hershey of Georgia Highlands College.

Destinos: Introduction to Spanish - this telenovela, or Spanish soap opera, immerses students in everyday situations with native speakers and introduces the cultures, accents, and dialects of Mexico, Spain, Argentina, and Puerto Rico.

Educational Forum - topics range from politics and education to poverty and child care. Guests are nationally-recognized as experts...so we don't mess around.

French in Action - follow the storyline of an American student and a young Frenchwoman's adventures in Paris and the French countryside while introducing the French culture.

30 min - Tuesday and Thursday 9:30am-10:00am and 1:00pm-1:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 12:00pm-12:30pm and 5:30pm-6:00pm

 

Floyd County Board of Education - monthly meetings of the Floyd County Board of Education and area high school students recognized for achievement.

Saturday and Sunday at 4:00pm-5:00pm

 

Georgia Highlands Bulletin Board  - features information and announcements for both Georgia Highlands College students and the community. Classical music can be heard behind the Bulletin Board, and interesting quotes and facts add to the programming's appeal.

In Case You Missed It - throughout the year Student Life brings various performances on campus to perform and entertain student body. Performances include poets, musicians, comedians, and various other types of visual performances. In Case You Missed It gives you the opportunity to see these performances.

In Search of the Novel - discover creative strategies for bringing novels to life for middle and high school students with this workshop, featuring the words and works of 10 well-known novelists.

Inside the Global Economy - delve into a multinational perspective on how the global economy and market affect individuals, businesses, and industry.

Local Concerts - Local Concerts is a collection of local music from Rome and Floyd County. Musical performances from the Rome Symphony Orchestra, NW Georgia Winds, Berry College, Shorter College, and others are featured.

Math Illuminated - explore major themes in the field of mathematics, from mankind's earliest study of prime numbers to the cutting edge mathematics used to reveal the shape of the universe.

30 min - Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00am-10:30am and 2:00pm-2:30pm, 3:30pm-4:00pm

 

Out of the Past - join this humanistic approach to archaeology and anthropology to make connections between past civilizations and modern societies, looking at how societies function and change.

60 min - Tuesday and Thursday 2:30pm-3:30pm, Saturday and Sunday from 2:00pm-3:00pm

 

Spanish for Children: SALSA is designed to teach Spanish to young learners. Classic children's stories form the basis for this program, which incorporates puppets and animation.

Wolf Cry - is an innovative program that will feature teachers, academics, sports, events and other various aspects and highlights of Rome High School.
