GHC/Marietta's Campus Dean Becomes a Principal for a Day
Georgia Highlands College/Marietta, in partnership with the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, Cobb County Schools and Marietta City Schools will participate in the 2012 Principal for a Day project. The annual program, now in its 12th year, allows business, education and civic leaders an opportunity to apply their skill sets in the local schools, thus creating potential partnerships.

Dr. Kirk A. Nooks, GHC/Marietta campus dean, was selected to serve on February 15 as a principal at the Green Acres Elementary School. He expects to observe the strengths and challenges of the school and explore areas of future collaboration between Green Acres and GHC. He will spend the day immersed in the daily activities of Mike Bivens, current principal at the elementary school. Nooks said, "It is an honor to be among those selected for the 2012 Principal for a Day project. I look forward to the collaboration and learning that will take place during the day, and to the new skills and knowledge I'll learn to help ensure success for tomorrow's college student today."

Green Acres Elementary School's mission is "to ensure that all students will meet or exceed state standards and be prepared for middle school." Georgia Highlands College seeks to collaborate and contribute to molding the youth to become model citizens and contributors to the world through academics and community involvement. The partnership created by Green Acres Elementary School, Cobb County Schools, and Georgia Highlands will pave the way for increase student success rates.
