I am pleased to announce that the following full-time faculty members have been appointed to important new positions for the coming 2010-2011 academic year: |

Jesse Bishop has been named Director of Diversity Initiatives. He will lead efforts in planning, organizing and implementing GHC’s diversity plan in academics. He will aid the efforts of the African American Male Initiative (AAMI), Brother-2-Brother (B2B) as well as other organizations, work closely with Human Resources to help ensure that policies and practices serve to diversify employment and training, and assist in the assessment of program effectiveness while initiating improvements, as needed.

Libby Gore will assume the title of Director of First Year Experience (FYE). She will lead the development of FYE activities that promote student-centered learning, success and retention, manage course development of the Freshman College Studies (FCST) course, leading review and update of course learning outcomes and scheduling, develop and manage a well-qualified cadre of FCST instructors, and assist in the assessment of program effectiveness and improvement.

Sharryse Henderson will become the Director of the Honors Program (HP). She will guide GHC’s transition from honors project to honors program status, will support HP course planning, student and faculty recruitment, orientation, assessment efforts, will coordinate special events for HP students, and serve as the chief contact for faculty, staff and administration for the development of the program.

Dr. Jeff Linek is named Director of E(electronic)-learning for Academics. His job will be to work with academic divisions to schedule E-courses, whether web, hybrid and/or dvd-based, help standardize syllabi construction, content development, faculty training and certification for e-instruction, and assist in development of the E-learning program, strategic plan for instruction, assessment and testing protocols. He will also lead the collaboration between academic and technological work to achieve successful distance learning program outcomes.

Dr. Bronson Long will assume the position of Director of Global Initiatives/Study Abroad. He will plan study abroad travel opportunities, contribute to global learning expectations across the curriculum through core revision efforts and assessments, coordinate college-wide efforts and chair an advisory group with membership from across all GHC campuses, and work closely within USG policies and procedures governing international programs study development.

With the approval of the Academic Council, Instructional Council and the President, I welcome these outstanding faculty members to their new positions. I’m thrilled for our students who will be benefactors of the directors’ innovation and commitment in the coming year. It is especially nice that they represent five different areas: Humanities; Academic Support; Natural Science; Mathematics; Social Sciences. Please join me in congratulating each of them. |
