Open labs are non-instructional time designed to allow the student an opportunity to work on the lab materials alone or in small groups. Open labs are considered optional, but success in the laboratory depends on studying the material more than the allotted 2 hours a week set aside for the instructional lab. Students who make an effort to attend open lab sessions and who stay on task during the sessions see a great improvement in their grades and overall grasp of the material. Open labs are a luxury and the schedule may be changed at any time with little notice. If the open lab time is under-utilized or if the open lab sessions become disruptive, they will be cancelled.
