Diversity Initiatives Strategic Plan Georgia Highlands College

The purpose of the diversity initiative strategic plan is to nurture a pluralistic perspective by planning and implementing transformative endeavors that promote multicultural awareness as well as foster social inclusion.

Goal # 1 - Develop and implement initiatives that increase access, retention rates, and success of students who do not represent the socio-cultural majority (i.e., improving educational equity)

Goal #2 - Develop and implement initiatives that promote a diverse college constituency as well as nurtures inclusivity and tolerance (i.e. diversifying the institutional environment)

Goal #3 - Develop and implement initiatives that encourage deep and meaningful multicultural learning as well as raise social consciousness (i.e. increasing multicultural competency)

Educational Equity (EE) Initiatives

Committee Responsibilities:

Run qualitative and/or quantitative assessments that identify the various challenges underrepresented students face in relation to access, retention, and overall success

Identify the various units of the college that are affected by and involved in educational equity and recruit their help in developing and implementing programs that will decrease the educational gap for various groups of students

Institutional Climate (IC) Initiatives

Committee Responsibilities:

Run qualitative and/or quantitative assessments that characterize the college environment relative to the principles of diversity and multiculturalism

Identify the various units of the college that have a large influence on campus climate and recruit their help in developing strategies that lead to a more diverse institutional workforce and student body

Multicultural Competency (ME) Initiatives

Committee responsibilities:

Run qualitative and/or quantitative assessments that informs the diversity committee in making decisions concerning the creation of educational programs that will raise socio-cultural consciousness

Identify the various units of the college whose focus is on teaching and learning and recruit their help in developing and implementing educational activities related to multiculturalism

Primary objective: Develop and implement at least one program annually

Secondary objective: At academic year’s end evaluate the program and decide whether to restructure the program or plan to develop a new program

Primary objective: Develop and implement at least one strategy annually

Secondary objective: At academic year’s end evaluate the strategy and decide whether to reconfigure the strategy or plan to develop a new strategy

Primary objective: Develop and implement at least one educational activity annually

Secondary objective: At academic year’s end evaluate that activity and decide whether to redesign the activity or plan to develop a new activity
