GHC-Douglasville Students Find Multiple Ways to Help Needy

Members of Woman to Woman and Brother2Brother collected more than 250 books on the Douglasville campus to benefit Harewood Primary School in Jamaica.  The book drive is a collaborative effort among GHC-Douglasville, a local community member and Jamaica's Ministry of Education. The books will benefit students who reside in an area of the country that no longer receives government funding for remedial reading programs.

Other groups around campus are also finding ways to help the most vulnerable during the holiday season.  Phi Theta Kappa installed an Angel Tree to collect Christmas gifts for several local children who otherwise would have nothing.  PTK collects the wrapped gifts, which they will distribute.  Faculty, staff and students have all participated in the project.

Meanwhile, the Math and Science Club are sponsoring a food drive with boxes strategically placed around the facility to collect non-perishable items.  The food will be donated to the Pantry, a local food bank.  So far, the boxes have yielded canned corn, green beans, peas, boxed mac and cheese, canned stew and soup, meat, fruit, cereal and dried milk.  The club has asked all students, faculty and staff to contribute food items.
