Steps for Entering Georgia Highlands College

1. Complete and Return Forms

Complete and return your Admission Application  as quickly as possible.  There is a $20 application fee. If you intend to study with Georgia Highlands College ONLY through Georgia eCore® distance learning, please designate this on your application.  You will need a copy of your high school transcript (if you are applying under a name different from the name you graduated from high school, please ask that your new name and Social Security number be placed on your transcript), or a copy of your GED.  If you have any previous college credits, an official college transcript is required.  Financial Aid forms also need to be completed and returned as soon as possible.  You will be informed of additional necessary documents and materials needed. 

2. Take the Placement Exam

Once admitted to Georgia Highalnds College, some freshmen must take the COMPASS Placement Exam prior to enrollment. The dates for the exam are published and sent to those who need to test.  The COMPASS tests students for Reading, English and Math proficiency.  It is used to assist advisors in helping determine the classes needed to begin a successful  academic career.  COMPASS is not a pass/fail test nor an admissions test.  3 1/2 hours need to be set aside for the exam.  If you are a Georgia eCorereg; distance learning student, we will try to identify COMPASS testing in your geographical area.

3. Attend New Student Orientation

You will be notified how to make reservations for orientation once you are admitted or tested.  This session will acquaint you with various regulations, programs available, registration procedures, and resources.  You will also meet with an academic advisor, select classes, register, make payment, and accomplish other enrollment activities.  Georgia eCore® distance learning students are not required to attend an orientation.

4. Meet your Academic Advisor

As indicated, new students meet with an academic advisor who will interpret their COMPASS scores and assist them in course selection.  Georgia eCore® distance learning students will talk to the Georgia Highlands College eCore advisor via email or phone.

5. Register for Classes

Registration takes place at various sites.  Web registration via The SCORE is also available for current students.  Georgia Ecore® distance learning students may register via the Score. You can find more information at www.highlands.edu/ecore.

6. Pay Fees

Class schedules include charges, financial aid, and balance due.    Payment of fees secures the student's schedule. Georgia eCore® distance learning students can contact Georgia Highlands College Accounting Services at (706)295-6344 for payment options.

7. Have Charger Card Made

The Charger Card Office will make your student ID. Your ID will be used to check out books in the library and for admission to various activities on campus.  It also provides access to printers and copiers on campus.

8. Purchase Books and Supplies

All books required and recommended for your classes are found in the Georgia Highlands College Virtual Bookstore. Prices are clearly marked. Students may choose new or used books. Please note the return/refund policy.
