Se Entiendo
Warm brown skin misted with sweat covers his heavy protruding brow which furrows with thought as his black eyes concentrate on aiming the hammer. Latino confidence seeps out from within him as he frames another house for the rich never knowing if la migra will force him home. Gringos all around, screaming words he does not understand or care to learn. Oppressed by his poverty, ignorance, and pride, he works tirelesly to send money to a family that always has open hands. At the end of the day he comes home to me and buries his sun weathered face in my ample breast sighing with relief that another day has ended. I hold him tightly, understanding how he feels. --Suzanne Wood-Ramirez
