Georgia Highlands College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, 1866 Southern Lane Decatur, Ga. 30033, to award the Associate Degree.
Status of Accreditation
In February 2000, the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission approved the nursing department for 8 years continuing accreditation. The Georgia Board of Nursing granted full approval of the program for 4 years in May 2001. In summer semester 2001 the first Paramedic-RN Career Mobility track was started at Georgia Highlands College. This allows for advanced placement of licensed paramedics in the nursing program. The nursing department was selected as the winner of the 1999 Regents Teaching Excellence Awards for departments and programs and was presented a $5,000 award at a ceremony in spring 1999. The reviewers of this award cited the department's commitment to respond to the changing and demanding needs of the nursing profession, the innovative use of technology in the classroom, and the professional achievement of both students and faculty as reasons for the selection. The Associate of Science Dental Hygiene degree program was previously sponsored by the Medical College of Georgia. Sponsorship changed to Georgia Highlands College in May 1998. The dental hygiene department was selected as the winner of the 2004 Regents' Teaching Excellence Awards for departments and programs. The reviewers cited the department's service to the community and the success of the graduates. As of July 1998, the Georgia Highlands College dental hygiene program received accreditation from the following commission:
