The Office of Advancement was established in July 1998. The Office has three major responsibilities: 1) support of Georgia Highlands College Foundation; 2) establishment and support of Cartersville/Bartow College Foundation; and 3) establishment and support of Georgia Highlands College Alumni Association. In addition, the office is responsible for development and advancement activities, including grant research and application to support institutional and faculty/staff priorities. In the first year of existence, the Office of Advancement achieved the following:
Floyd College FoundationThe Georgia Highlands College Foundation was chartered in 1973 as a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation to assist the college in its development program and to provide a vehicle for securing funds for scholarships, special needs and enrichment programs. Its purposes are to give community input to enable the college to better serve the community, to expand educational opportunities, and to finance projects that are not fundable by state money. The Foundation is made up of public-minded citizens who have been willing to devote time and energy to enlarge the scope and influence of the college, its personnel and programs. The Georgia Highlands College Foundation Board of Trustees has approximately 40 active members and seven Honorary Lifetime members. The Foundation Scholars Program High school seniors are eligible if they have either a cumulative 3.5 GPA on academic subjects or are in the top 5% of their graduating class, and are nominated by their high school counselors. Before the HOPE Grant, Foundations Scholars would receive $1,800 for their first year at Floyd, and another $1,800 for their second year, if they maintained a B average. With the HOPE Grant, Foundation Scholars receive $750 a year, which is also renewable for a second year with adequate grades (3.2 GPA). Executive Board (January – December, 2000)

Cartersville/Bartow College FoundationIn support of the new Cartersville center, the Cartersville/Bartow College Foundation was established in January :1999. The Foundation’s immediate goal is to raise approximately $500,000 as an initial endowment for the new center in order to the meet and exceed the Board of Regents requirement for an initial endowment of $340,000. David Archer In January 1999, the Cartersville/Bartow College Foundation received the largest private donation in the college’s history. An anonymous donation of $120,000 established the Bartow County Service Scholarship which will be awarded annually to students who are Bartow County residents with financial need. Recipients must work or perform a required number of service hours with a Bartow County non-profit organization in exchange for the scholarship. · For Academic Year 1999-2000, the Foundation awarded five (5) Bartow County Service Scholarships (1 full scholarship and 4 partial scholarships). · The Cartersville/Bartow College Foundation announced the Initial Endowment Campaign to be conducted from September through December, 1999. The goal of the Campaign is to raise $380,000, bringing the total raised to $500,000 (including the $120,000 donation for the Bartow County Service Scholarship).
