The Content page allows you to see upcoming events in the course, to access a module, or a topic within a module, to set bookmarks, and to download a page to your PC or to a tablet for later viewing when you are no longer online.
The Content page provides an overview of the whole course and contains six main areas, shown in the above screenshot.
Not all courses include an overview, but if you see the Overview listed, the contents will appear on the right, as below.
This area provides easy access to content bookmarks for browsing and management.
Click the Add Bookmark icon while viewing a topic to add it to your bookmarks list. The number beside the Bookmarks link indicates how many bookmarks you added within the course.
2. Upcoming Events
This area allows you to quickly see what scheduled events are upcoming in the course. Key concepts:
- Displays all upcoming events for the next 9 days along with a toggle to view the full course schedule
- Easily schedule any content type in one view
- Print upcoming or full course schedule Provides count of number of upcoming events
Lists course material due dates, start dates, end dates, and other course events for the next seven days. Dates listed on this page are not exclusive to Content topics; upcoming events include all events within the course from the Calendar tool. The number beside the Upcoming Events link indicates how many upcoming events you have.
3. Table of Contents
The Table of Contents lists the modules, or whatever units the instructor uses to organize the course (i.e chapters, weeks, etc.).
Browse course materials and assignments here. The number beside a module listed in the Table of Contents panel indicates how many topics within the module you need to complete. The number decreases as you work through course materials.
Click a module in the Table of Contents, the "1. Introduction" module has been clicked in the screenshot shown below (notice the blue background), and on the right, the four Introduction module's topics are listed.
Note that in the screenshot, the user has visited modules 1, 2 and 3, shown by the checkmark next to the modules on the left.
4. Download & Binder
You can download individual topics or whole modules from the Content tool. You can also download all modules and topics in your course from the Table of Contents page in the Content tool. Downloading content to your computer is useful for viewing content offline. Your content downloads as zipped files and folders.
You can send certain topics in Content to your mobile device via the Binder App.
To download a page to a tablet you use the "Binder" button. The Binder app can be downloaded to your tablet (iPad, Android, etc.), and when you download files to your tablet they will be available even if you are not online.

5. The Progress Bar
The Table of Contents pane shows a progress bar, indicating what percentage of the course topics you have read.
6. Module Topics
Whereas the Table of Contents in the left-hand pane of the Content Viewer shows a "top-level" view of a course, the module and topic list on the right shows modules as well as the topics within the modules.
A course "Module" is one of the units your instructor has used to organize the content. A course "Topic" is one part of the module, which can be an individual page, a link, a quiz, a discussion, etc.. Each module may have many topics.Note: If a specific learning path has been defined for your course, some content areas may only be available once you complete prerequisite sections or assignments.
You can print individual topics or whole modules through the Print/Download page.
Submitting feedback using the Content tool
Click on a topic, then click Submit feedback from the topic's context menu to rate the quality of the content topic from 1 to 5 and leave a comment.
You can choose to submit your feedback anonymously or include your name. You can update your feedback submission by resubmitting feedback to the same topic, but only your newest comments and rating appear to instructors and course administrators.
Resubmitted feedback overwrites previously submitted feedback regardless of whether you change your user status from anonymous to your user name (or from your user name to anonymous user).
The Content Viewer
When a topic is accessed from a bookmark, from the Table of Contents, or from the Module view, the Content Viewer opens that provides a full view of the content.
1. The "breadcrumbs" show where you are in the Module. You can click a breadcrumbs link to go back to the table of Contents.
2. To View documents in full screen, click the full-screen icon. See below for more info.
3. The advance and back buttons take you to topics or to the next module if you have viewed all the topics in a module.
Notice the small tab that appears on the left of each page when you are looking at the content in a course. You can click the tab, which expands a panel on top of the content page you are on to reveal the course content map. With the content map, under the "Navigation" heading, you can easily navigate to any topic in the entire course.
The screenshot shows the panel expanded. Click the tab again to shrink the panel back. The panel also supports swipe gestures on tablets (iPd, Addoid, etc).
The Document Viewer
Documents automatically resize to fit the viewport and you can view them in full screen without losing your current scroll point in the document. This means that you can move seamlessly between full screen and normal view with no disruption to the viewing experience.
Inline Document Viewing
One of the major features in the recent upgrades to the D2L Learning Environment is the inline document viewing feature. Now, you don't have to have Microsoft Word to see a Word document posted by your instructor, and you don't have to download the document (unless you want to). This is called "inline" viewing.
The same goes for PowerPoint slideshows and PDF documents. Inline document viewing of supported file types: doc, docx, pdf, secure pdfs, google docs, ppt, pptx, pps.
