Installing Pharos Popup Client 5.0 for Windows 2000


The Pharos Popup installation must be completed in two steps.

Part one: Installing a local Printer.


If your classes are located at the Rome Campus where there is more than one student printer available,or if you go to more than one campus for classes you will need to install a separate local printer for each student printer you plan to use.

1. Click on your start button, choose settings and click on printers.

2. Double click on the add printer icon.

3. Click next.

4. At the Local or network printer window make sure the local printer option is selected. Then be sure to un-check the box to automatically detect and install my plug and play printer. Click next.

5. In the select printer port window click on LPT 2 one time to highlight it, then click next.

6. In the next window on the left of the screen you will see a list of printer manufacturers. Scroll down until you see Canon and click one time to select it.

7. On the right of your screen under printers scroll down until you see Canon IR 330-400 PS Ver 1.01 and click on this one time to highlight it then click next.

8. In the name your printer window you should name your printer descriptively such as Rome Library if you plan to use the student printer at the Rome campus located in the library or Heritage if you plan to use the printer at Heritage Hall. Then click next.

9. At the printer sharing window accept the default of Do not share and click next.

10. Choose no that you do not want to print a test page and click next.

11. Click finish.

12. You will see files copying and then you will see the printer you have installed inside your printers window.

13. Repeat steps 1 – 11 if you plan to use more than one Floyd college student printer.

14. Once you are finished adding local printers close the printer’s window.

Part Two: Download and Installation of the Pharos Popup Client for Georgia Highlands College Student Printing


1. Download the Pharos Software

2. Choose save to disk and save to your desktop or somewhere that you will be able to easily locate it.

3. Double click on the Pharos5.exe icon.

4. The files will automatically unzip to your temp directory and the installation of Pharos will start. This will take a minute or so.

5. At the welcome to Pharos screen click next.

6. At the Installation attendance screen accept the default of Attended and click next.

7. At the type of installation screen accept the default of typical and click next.

8. At the installation directory window click next.

9. Accept the default of saving backup copies of replaced files and click next.

10. In the TPC/IP host name screen click on the box for TCP/IP address and type in 168.30.219.122 and click next.

11. You will see a screen asking you to select Pharos Popup Printers. You should check the box of each local printer you have added for use with the Pharos Printing system. Do not check the box for any local printers you already have at your home or office. Only check the boxes for printers you have added for use with Pharos according to the directions in the previous section.

12. After selecting printers click next.

13. You will then see a window prompting you to select a printer queue for use with your printers. Pay close attention to the name of the printer listed in the top middle of your screen. This will be very important if you have installed more than one printer for use with the Floyd college Pharos printing system. After taking note of your printer name you should click on browse.

14. You will see a new window for selection of Print queues. In this new window, on the left side of the screen you will see Servers. Click on the server named Socrates one time to highlight it. You should then see shared print queues listed on the right side of your screen. Choose the print queue local to the campus on which you attend classes. Please see chart below for printer locations. Again pay close attention that you are matching the correct print queue for your campus location. As the installation continues you will be prompted to add a print queue for each local printer you have installed and checked for use with the Pharos printing system.

15. Once you have choosen your local print queue by clicking one time to highlight it you should click OK and then click next.

16. If you have installed more than one local printer for use at more than one Georgia Highlands College Campus you should continue steps 13 through 15 until all printers are choosen then click next.

17. At the start installation window click Start.

18. It will take a minute or so for files to copy and the system to configure.

19. Click Finish

20. Then click Ok to restart your system.
