Overview
Georgia Highlands College Continuing Education's Professional Learning Center for Educators offers teachers the opportunity to earn Professional Learning Units (PLUs) online. In the State of Georgia, teachers are currently required to complete 10 PLUs every 5 years in order to retain their teaching certificates.
Only the courses listed on the Approved Course List may be taken to earn PLUs. . Each course is approved for 2 PLUs unless otherwise specified.
After making your course selection, please complete the Prior Approval Form before beginning the course. If you are currently teaching, it is your responsibility to print this form, complete it, and have your System Superintendent or Professional Learning Coordinator sign it. If you are not presently employed as a teacher, you must also print this form, complete it, and sign it. A legible copy of the completed form must be faxed to the Director of the Professional Learning Center for Educators at (706) 802-5304 before the beginning of the course.
Upon successful completion of your online course, you will be able to print an online Certificate of Completion for the course. This Certificate, along with the completed and signed Affidavit (from this website) must be faxed or mailed to the Director of the Professional Learning Center for Educators, Department of Continuing Education at Georgia Highlands College. A Professional Learning Unit (PLU) Course Completion Form will be issued to you after the receipt of this documentation. If you are currently teaching, the Course Completion form should be given to your Professional Learning Coordinator for your school system. If you are not currently employed as a teacher, the Course Completion form will be sent to you. When you are ready to renew your teaching certificate, you will attach the Professional Learning Unit (PLU) Course Completion Form to your renewal application which can be found on the Professional Standards Commission website: www.gapsc.com.
