Traffic Rules & Regulations
This handbook serves as a policy for all vehicles and their operators on the campuses of Georgia Highlands College. For the purpose of these regulations the term “vehicle” includes all motorized and non-motorized devices of transportation on land.
RegistrationAll Georgia Highlands College faculty, staff and students shall register their vehicle before operating and parking on campuses. Vehicles can be registered and permits obtained at the Business Office between 8:00am and 5: 30pm . The permit shall be affixed to the vehicle in a readily viewable manner. The person the vehicle is registered is responsible for all violations by that vehicle. Moving violations will be charged to the operator/driver.
All fines must be paid before a new academic year. No grades will be given until all fines are paid. Parking permits are the property of Georgia Highlands College and must be turned in to the Safety Office should the owner terminate the association with Georgia Highlands College.
FeesStudents $2.00 per semester
Temprary PermitsTemporary permits for vehicles that will be parking for a limited time such as Special Events, Construction, short term Continuing Education can be obtained at the Campus Safety Office.
REGULATIONSAll vehicle operators are responsible for finding a legal parking space. Weather conditions or inconvenience is not as excuse for violating parking regulations.
No vehicle is to be driven or parked on Georgia Highlands Colleges in any manner that will damage grounds, buildings, landscaping or facilities.
No vehicle will be parked at/on a yellow curb, fire lane, sidewalk, walkway, driveway, loading zone, grass or seeded area, or lawn.
No vehicle will be parked in a “No Parking” zone, an area closed off by signs, barricades or other traffic control devices.
No vehicles will be parked in such a manner as to obstruct traffic or parking in any area not designated as a parking area.
The Speed limit on campus is 15 miles per hour.
All pedestrians have the Right of Way.
All Georgia traffic laws are to be obeyed.
Report all vehicle accidents to Campus Safety.
TowingAny vehicle that appears to be abandoned or creates a fire/safety hazard will be towed.
Any vehicle that has 7 traffic/parking violations will be towed.
Fines1. $20.00 Speeding, reckless driving or driving in a less safe manner for conditions.
2. $10.00 Illegal parking/blockage of traffic/out of lane.
3. $10.00 Stop sign, yield sign, traffic sign/device violation.
4. $100.00 Parking in Handicap Zone without a permit.
5. $10.00 Failure to display permit.
6. $10.00 driving/parking in restricted areas.
7. $5.00 Tobacco usage on campus
Appeals/PaymentsTraffic citations may be appealed to the Office of Campus Safety within seven calendar days of the citation date.
Payment of citations may be made at the Business Office. Payment after 7 business days will result in a 50% penalty.
