Volunteer Center

The Georgia Highlands College Volunteer Services/Service Learning Center was founded as the Georgia Highlands College Center of Community and Service-Learning Volunteers in the Spring of 1991 to create and promote volunteer opportunities for students and faculty in an effort to enhance the total college experience.

Today the Center continues to promote volunteer opportunities to students and faculty, while serving as a clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities. The Center enhances student's learning by allowing students to explore personal and career interests, developing community contacts, teaching social responsibility and promoting responsible citizenship.

The Center assists students and faculty in recruiting and placing volunteers with agencies, schools and programs in the Rome area. This is accomplished through training, evaluation, assessment, learning and recognition.

The volunteer opportunities provided through the Center are as diverse and unique as the people who seek them. Some positions require varying amounts of time and skill levels. Whatever your times of availability or interests are we can find an opportunity to fit your goals. Some areas of past involvement include: literacy, health care, drug prevention, youth services, environmental issues and recreation.

If you are interested in serving as a volunteer or seek volunteers for your organization or program, please feel free to contact our office at (706) 295-6773 or email volunteers@mail.highlands.edu. Our offices are located in the Student Center portion of the Administration building on the main campus in Rome, GA.
