Student Success Centers

A Point of Access for Students

  • Georgia Highlands College (GHC) is a “point of access” for a diverse student population, including students who need remedial education to be successful in the global economy.
  • At GHC, 65% of incoming full-time freshman need remediation.
  • A majority of GHC students represent recent high school graduates and the local workforce – men and women entering college after being out of the classroom for several years. With tutorial and support services, students who are successful in remedial courses have an opportunity to progress successfully through their core courses and college careers.
  • Tutorial and support services are equally important to the success of students in core courses. Due to budget constraints, GHC currently provides limited support services for its students.
  • In today’s global workplace, employers need employees who have critical thinking skills, possess an understanding of mathematics, reading and writing, and who have the ability to communicate and work well in teams. These skills set GHC students apart from those whose training has been focused primarily on entry-level or technical skills.
  • GHC’s goal is to establish Student Success Centers at all campus locations with adequate staffing, extended hours and resources to ensure comprehensive student support services. An additional emphasis will be place on support for those students who need remediation to be successful. Student Success Centers will provide vital services to students and serve as an initial point of access for incoming students.
