Waco may be the smallest kid on the block, but we are definitely in the thick of things this fall! Here are the latest happenings from the Floyd-Haralson Site Library . . . In keeping with the latest computer system upgrades, we have updated the Voyager Circulation System to Version 2000.1, the old Banner System to the new GUI Interface, and Microsoft Office Suite '97 to MS Office 2000.
I am especially excited about our new CORC project. Jeannie Blakely is spearheading the effort to develop a pathfinder for Floyd's sign language interpreter program and we have been asked to join in the effort.
Enrollment at Waco has climbed to a respectable 155 students for this fall semester and I have already been asked to teach four GALILEO classes in the coming weeks. As you all know, GALILEO has been upgraded to Version 7.0 so much of my time has been focused on learning the newest databases and search strategies. And I continue to catalog a few donated paperback books to our collection almost every day.
Our students here at Waco have not been shy about coming in to use the library, either. We have already been engaged in some computer searches for students who are getting an early start on their research projects this fall!
Speaking of our materials collection, we have had an anonymous donor provide us with six tutorial videos from the ViaGrafix Co. on the major applications in Office Suite 2000. Students can view these videos any time during regular office hours in our library's audio-visual room. Some of our newest additions to the hardback collection in the circulating stacks include: Alexander of Macedon by Peter Green; Caesar by Christian Meier; Battle: The Story of the Bulge by John Toland; 20,000 years of Fashion by Francois Boucher; and One Renegade Cell: How Cancer Begins by Robert Weinberg.
Several more titles should be forthcoming which will focus on American and English Literature, Sociology, and Gerontology.
Our library's hours for this fall are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday. We hope you will stop by and see us!
