GALILEO'S New Look

The Galileo home page is the starting point for your research on the web. GALILEO has a new look this year. From the Galileo home page you have access to the Galileo databases, Internet resources, Georgia library catalogs, electronic resources and information from the University System of Georgia. You will find new search screens in the Galileo web site that make information more current for you.

Click the blue boxes labeled “Galileo Databases,” “About Galileo,” “Internet Resources,” “University System of Georgia,” and “Georgia Library Catalogs” to explore the riches of Galileo. This year you will find photographs, charts and graphs within the Galileo databases. Additionally, both Bell+Howell and EBSCO offer the ability to search the complete text of articles (not just titles, abstracts, and headings).

Galileo offers more than one hundred databases which index and abstract articles from popular magazines, scholarly and technical journals, and newspapers. In some of these databases, the text of articles is linked to the article citations and may be read online, printed, saved, or e-mailed. A few databases include the full text of all articles. Other databases offer access to reference works.

Galileo now offers you access to web-based library catalogs across the state. All of the University System of Georgia Libraries are available through Galileo. When you click the “Georgia Library Catalogs” button on the Galileo home page, you see a list of catalogs of the libraries of University System colleges and universities, private academic libraries, public libraries, and technical institutes. Clicking the institution name connects to the library catalog. Following some institution names are instructions for logging onto the catalog if that is required.

The GALILEO system has seen many changes since its debut in September 1995. The system has grown in resources and in users served throughout Georgia. As technology evolves, new capabilities become possible. Galileo is growing and evolving. Check out the changes in Galileo this year.
