| An Online Newsletter For the Georgia Highlands College Community Because…
Your colleagues who work in the Library building at the back of the College near the lake, and at the branches at North Metro Tech and Haralson, want all of Georgia Highlands College to become better acquainted with us and the things we do for you and the College. Most of you know about us and avail yourselves of some of the library's services and facilities. We just want you to know about all of our services and all of the ways we can help. We also want to know about those things you want from us, and this forum provides for that. You are encouraged to respond to the articles you read here, and we will be discouraged if you don't (You don't want to deal with a bunch of discouraged library types; we get grumpy)! more

It's Party Time! GALILEO is Georgia's Smartest 5 Year Old
For five years the students of Georgia Highlands College have grown used to GALILEO. It is now customary to direct students to GALILEO when they begin any sort of research. Those of us in the Library are so used to teaching new students to take their first steps into computerized research that we could do it in our sleep, except for the fact that GALILEO keeps changing, growing, becoming more and making more better. What is on our laptops today looks nothing like what we saw when all of this was new. And new was only five years ago. more

“Celebrate the Freedom to Read” - Banned Books Week, 9/23 - 30, 2000
The freedom of speech granted by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is challenged on a regular basis. Printed materials, books, short stories, and poetry are frequently challenged by persons who feel it necessary to limit exposure to the words written on those pages. Titles such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Color Purple, and the Bible are just a few examples of those books that have been banned or challenged over time. In an effort to remind us that we do have the freedom to read, the American Library Association and several other sponsors have an annual promotion called Banned Books Week. more

Book Forum
The FC Library and Tutorial Center are proud to announce a new community open to all Georgia Highlands College students, staff, and faculty: the Book Forum. This new discussion group grew out of the "Poetry in the Pop Culture" group from the Spring semester of last year. The poetry group proved to be so successful that we put our heads together to come up with something; hence, the Book Forum. We plan to cover all forms of literature, from fiction to nonfiction and poetry to drama, with something for everyone. more
