Missions and Goals

Mission: The Library advances the academic mission of the college by providing access to knowledge and information resources and educating students, faculty, staff and community in the most effective methods of identifying and acquiring information resources to meet their curricular and research needs. The Library provides leadership in the development of information policy for the college and plays a key role in instruction, knowledge development, creativity, and the scholarly communication process.

Administrative Objectives

1. The library develops and maintains appropriate library collections at all GHC libraries, emphasizing the college curriculum with the assistance of the faculty, staff and students following the guidelines of the ALA Bill of Rights.
2. Students will be able to use library resources efficiently.
3. Library staff provides point of use instruction to guide students in the research process.
4. The library provides information to library patrons in an easy-to-use format.
5. The library provides multiple avenues for accessing information, including print and electronic resources.
6. The library maintains effective collaborations with partner institutions.
7. The library participates in consortial relationships with University System of Georgia libraries and other institutions.
8. The library works to improve information literacy for students, faculty and staff.
9. The library utilizes proper budget management practices, including setting priorities for expenditures and following procedures for purchases and budget adjustments.
10. Library staff participates in professional development to stay current in the field. The library provides resources to all users at the place of need in a timely manner.
