Financial
Aid and Scholarships for Study Abroad
HOPE Scholarship
Students at Georgia Highlands College can use their federal and state
financial
aid
for study abroad. It may
also be possible
to use institutional
aid; check with a financial
aid officer on your specific
types of aid. This aid can be used not only
on University
of
Georgia
study
abroad programs, but on any study abroad program for which the
student
will receive academic credit.
If
you will be attending a University System of Georgia study abroad program
and are on the HOPE scholarship, your tuition will be paid for directly by the
HOPE scholarship. You do not need to fill out any forms.
Your book allowance will be sent to you in a check 10 days before
the start of your program, as will any other type of financial aid
you receive.
To
receive academic credit for a non-University System of Georgia study
abroad program or a University System of Georgia exchange program, you
should fill out the proper forms which are available through the
registrar’s
office. Failure to completely fill out all forms properly before the specified
dates could jeopardize your
financial
aid.
The
amount of financial
aid that you receive for study abroad will depend on
the number of hours
that you take and the cost of your program. You should
also be aware that your financial
aid could be affected by any scholarships
that you may receive for study
abroad.
Students
planning to study abroad who are on financial
aid besides the HOPE
Scholarship should visit the
financial
aid office early to fill out forms and plan
ahead
in the use of their yearly distribution of financial
aid. If you are on the
HOPE scholarship only, you
can wait until you have completed your credit
approval
form, take a copy by the financial
aid office and verify that you have
applied for aid
for the summer.
