The Course:

History 1112 is a survey of the history of World Civilizations from 1500 to the present. The main focus is upon the social, political, and cultural developments in selected World Civilizations.

Textbook:

The Human Venture, Volume II, Third Edition, Anthony Esler.

Course Objectives:

Familiarity with the major social, political, and cultural developments since 1500 in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas; linking modern Western culture to that of previous periods and civilizations; and the extension of elementary research and writing skills.

Grading:

The final grade will be an average of the four tests (17.5% each), a major project (20%), and a second project (10%).

The grading scale is as follows:

A= 90-100%

B= 80-89%

C= 72-79%

D= 70-71%

F= Below 70%

 

Project Options:

1.Short research paper (minimum five typewritten pages and five scholarly sources, two of which must be from the Internet) on a topic you select and get approved by the instructor. MLA, APA, or Turabian styles of citations accepted. You must use citations properly.

2.Two book reviews (minimum four typewritten pages each) on books you select and get approved by the instructor.

3.Six cultural field trips (two typewritten pages each trip).

4.Art project.

5.Video project.

6.Class presentation.

7.Internet project.

8.Web page design.

Important Dates:

*October 15, 1998 is the last day to drop any class and have an opportunity to receive a "W".

Test dates: September 25, October 13, November 10, and December 8.

Major project due date is November 3.

Second project is due November 24.

October 15 is last day to withdraw with a "W".
