Education 2103 Syllabus and Policy

Post Secondary Readiness Enrichment Program (PREP)

This program was created by a task force under the direction of the University System of Georgia's Board of Regents to help prepare the Class of 2001 and successive students to be prepared for the new and more difficult admission standards that will be in effect for University System Schools. Georgia is divided up into sites. Georgia Highlands College, Dalton College and State University of West Georgia make up Site 7. Georgia Highlands College is also partners with Coosa Valley Technical Institute in the endeavor.

The role that Georgia Highlands College plays in PREP is that of targeting specific groups of 7th graders in area schools that has the potential for success in a post secondary educational institution. Georgia Highlands College works with the schools to provide mentoring, tutoring, leadership development, academic readiness skills, career exploration and technology instruction. Different school systems use a variety of methods to meet the goals of the PREP Program to best suit their needs.

Middle school students who successfully participate in the academic year component of PREP are invited to take part in a PREP Summer Camp for two weeks. This camp provides enrichment experiences in the field of science, math, self -esteem, creative writing, art, psychology, careers and history. Once students complete the program, they will receive a graduation certificate, which will be presented at a reception for students and their parents.

Georgia Highlands College serves the following school districts: Bartow County, Cartersville City, Floyd County, Rome City, Gordon County, Calhoun City, and Chattooga County.
